A FREE Bible Study on the Common Confession

The LC3 Steering Committee has put together a seven-part Bible Study on the articles of the Common Confession.

The study was written in an introductory discussion-based style, focusing on texts from the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions (namely, the Small Catechism and the Augsburg Confession). Permission is granted to photocopy the study for congregational use. It is being made available free of charge.

Our hope is to assist congregations in studying the biblical and confessional basis of our faith, with the hope that it will inspire congregations to examine the core beliefs of traditional Lutheranism, and how these beliefs apply to our own context. The study is also meant to serve as a tool for introducing the Common Confession to congregations. Pastors and lay leaders are encouraged to use it as a resource. Questions and comments are welcomed. Email communication may be sent to: LC3@lutherancore.org.

The introduction was written by Rev Steven E. King, one of the primary authors of the document. It is also included with the Bible Study.

Seven background essays on the articles were written by the Steering Committee of Lutheran CORE. These essays not only explain the meaning behind the articles of the Common Confession, they also help to draw connections with how our confession of relates to current issues in the ELCA.

The seven commentaries can also serve as a background resource or “leader’s guide” for the bible study on the Common Confession. As you read the Common Confession page, click on the Commentary links to view the essays for each article.
